Hi everyone! This post isn't related to fashion/beauty whatsoever but I just decided that it's time to set things straight. Recently, I've been hearing many people use autism as an insult, which shows blatant disregard for what autism is actually about.
To those who have been casually throwing around the word 'autistic' as an insult: do you know what autism really is about? If you don't then I'll tell you now.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is basically a brain disorder which makes it difficult to communicate with others. People with autism tend to have difficulties in areas such as social interactions, relationships, communicating etc. Please note here that it is a brain disorder and NOT a personality issue.
Disorders are never a choice. It is true, no one wants or wishes to have a disorder. But that doesn't mean that people with disorders deserve to be treated this way. Plus can you imagine if you accidentally told an autistic person not to be autistic? Wouldn't that be awful? In fact, no this post does not apply solely to autism. It applies to every single disorder. Be it anorexia, depression, bipolar or even anxiety. Disorders do not deserve to be blatantly and ignorantly treated as insults.
In fact, everyone has flaws. Everybody has a certain baggage they have to carry around their whole lives and disorders are simply a type of baggage. No one is perfect and no one should be made fun of because of their flaws.
So here's a short note to those who've been using 'autistic' as an insult:
You're not perfect. He's not perfect.
What makes you think you are so much better than him?
(Him refers to an autistic person btw)
Anyways, this was a pretty short post (although I took quite long to write it) and I hope I've cleared up any misconceptions here:-)
I know this post was kinda serious and stuff but I still do wish to end it on a happy note!:-) So until next time, stay safe and keep dreaming ∞
